Indie GAL 2015 Top Picks: Neckwear, Etc.

Following on from the shawls it seems only appropriate to have a look at the other neckwear available in the sale.

First up, I have three cowl patterns within this category: Flock Together – a fully lined, Escher-inspired piece, Geometrickery – with a 3-D shifting motif, and Laities – a simple cabled piece.

I’m spotting some themes in my preferences… mainly with colour-blocking, but with the cowls I also like colour work. And there are some lovely ones out there. What I’ve included below is a mere smidgen of all the options out there.

Follow Aphaia’s board Indie GAL2015 Top Picks: Neckwear, etc. on Pinterest.

Of note, the Rainchaser cowl matches one of the hats I mentioned in the first Top Picks post, so if you’re looking for a set that is a good option.

I particularly keen on the Pixel cowl. The pattern in combination with the colour choices really pops.

Next up – Hand and Arm Things. Complete with Competition!

Indie GAL Top Picks: Shawls, Etc.

This is quite possibly the largest of the Sale boards, there are a lot of shawls and stoles! Which meant I ended up browsing through this board several times, and I’m sure I still missed some fabulous ones.

Again a lot of colour blocking. I have an obsession. I’m particularly taken with Nancy Whitman’s designs, especially her Mondrian-inspired shawl. What I’m also interested in is the number of shawls which do not conform to the more ‘regular’ or expected shawl shapes. I adore asymmetry and frequently find that these shawls are very comfortable and easy to wear. I also spotted Wings of Change, and the construction of this one seems rather interesting.

I have four shawls in the sale: Evremond, Notus, Tesserae and Flightless. All use different techniques to produce the finished shapes and styles.

Next up… continuing on the neck theme – Neckwear!

Indie GAL 2015 Top Picks: Hats, Headwear, Etc.

A big part of the GAL for me is browsing through all the patterns on offer!

I find the Pinterest boards, which the dedicated team of mods and volunteers have put together, are a great way of seeing all the patterns easily. However, this year, they’ve also created super-bundles on Ravelry. These bundles have all of the fabulous Ravelry browsing / searching options and filters available, so if you have a specific preferences you can separate out the relevant options. The link to the bundles (and the Pinterest boards) can be found on Ravelry here (you’ll need to log in to Ravelry to access this page).

But… back to the patterns, I’ll be sharing my personal favourites, as well as the patterns I have on offer, once or twice a day from the various categories.

So from my Ravelry store, I have the following Hat / Headwear options available at the 25% discount.

Looking through the boards of the other patterns, there are a lot of very cool choices out there. These are a few of my personal favourites.

I love hats with bold colour choices and textures, as you can probably tell from the board I’ve put together. Colour blocks don’t need to be complex to really show off a pattern – Stairstepper and Scored are very simple, but striking. And I’m fascinated by the crown shaping on Tronda.

Next up… Shawls and Stoles!
