A simple ribbed and stockinette fitted beanie using the wonderfully sheepy Rowan Purelife British Breeds Chunky. Perfect for wandering about outside.

Gauge

16 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches
in Stockinette in the round

Needles Size US 10½ - 6.5 mm circular needles

Yardage 120 yards (110 m)

Size One Size as written to fit 20-22” / 51-56 cm.

Instructions

Using 6.5mm circular needles, cast on 64 stitches. Place marker, join in the round being careful not to twist. Knit 2.5 inches of 2 x 2 rib.

Work in stockinette until piece measures 4 inches from cast on edge. (For a longer hat, knit an extra inch – totalling 5 inches from cast on edge).

Work crown decreases as follows:

Knit 6, k2tog – repeat to marker. Knit 4 rows. (56 stitches)

Knit 5, k2tog – repeat to marker. Knit 3 rows. (48 stitches)

Knit 4, k2tog – repeat to marker. Knit 3 rows. (40 stitches)

Knit 3, k2tog – repeat to marker. Knit 2 rows. (32 stitches)

Knit 2, k2tog – repeat to marker. Knit 1 row. (24 stitches)

K2tog, knit 1 – repeat to marker. Knit 1 row. (16 stitches)

K2tog – repeat to marker. (8 stitches)

Break yarn and thread through remaining stitches, pull tight and sew ends in. Block.
