Oculus

In the ruins of the Baths of Emperor Diocletian in Rome, now stands the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri (St. Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs). In 2000, a glass skylight was added to the dome. The skylight, designed by the artist Narcissus Quagliata, casts wonderful colours around the building. For more information on the building and the inspiration behind the hat, this blogpost will help!

The Oculus hat is based on the skylight, the colours seen in version A are directly inspired by the original and use yarns from Jamieson & Smith’s 2-Ply Jumper Weight and Shetland Heritage ranges.

Want to mix it up a bit? The hat pattern and its structure also allows you to play around with colours; choose one main shade and then as many others as you like! Perfect for all those small quantities or scraps of fingering weight yarns!
